High walls

..so this 'nothing' piece of rock in the north sea is our home,
a home of  pirates, brigands and cut-throats. A home from where
we roamed the world doing all that was good and all that was bad.
We still have a monarch and we are subjects of HRH, we don't
have rights but we have 'freedoms'  and they have come with a
heavy price. These freedoms have been earned over centuries
but in just a few short months we have rolled over, had our
belly's tickled and given away so many of them. We have gone
from being traders and shop keepers to being lighthouse keepers

ps.. has he bitten off his mates finger or is his pipe upside down...

Beth Orton - Galaxy Of Emptiness

The stars light a sky
And a galaxy of emptiness tonight
Though I'm happiest
When there's no
Reason for me to be
With no-ones expectation to weigh
Heavy on my heart
And so much hope it some times tears
Me all apart ....
Could you please knock me off my feet for a while.............

Ozymandias.... poem 26

Talking of tearing down statues...

..when dear Percy Byssh saw this bust of Ramasses 11 in the museum
in London circa 1817 he wrote ......

                    Ozymandias
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said :  Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the dessert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that it's sculptor well those passions read,
Which yet survive stamped on these lifeless things
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear :
" My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty and despair"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

The Italian Job (Car Chase-Mini Coopers)

First car I bought was a brand new Mini from Dents garage
cost me (well my mom actually ) £490 quid. I drove it like
all roads were the track at Silverstone,  I was seventeen,
how I got be eighteen I'll never know but, back then I was immortal..
... and so alive.......

Short People

"Black lives matter"no shit Sherlock..
Me? I'm a white privileged English man so of course
I must be a bigoted racist , but if the law knew what I'd
done for ............................................. they'd arrest me.
You know I recon if every person on this planet were
stripped naked then sprayed with a permanent blue
dye,  had their hair shaved off and we all wore blonde
wigs, I'd give us a week at most.  Then we'd find some
reason to bully a group of us. Can't think of any?
Well what about short people...............
... "you gotta pick 'em up just to say hello"...

...woman's work....

..here hare here..

I don't know just how good this film is, but for me
there are none better. Grants performance as Withnail
is wonderful and the character of Withnail is so close
to how .............................
You need to watch the film to get the ending, but
the closing scene is heartbreaking . It's still the
only piece of Will S. that I love... here hare here...

Dancing dress

... dearly beloved, we are gathered here today....
'Cause it's pissing down outside....

There's a fat lady sings in a bar I use
There's a guy that brings black dancing shoes
There's a kid that I know with just half an eye
And he holds the hand of a taller guy
There's a dancing dress all out of time
And a Rasta I guess who's words don't rhyme
There's a bugle man who's lips are dry
And a bare-foot priest who says a sigh
And there's a fat lady sings in a bar I use
And there's a guy that brings black dancing shoes
And there's a fat lady sings in a bar I use
And there's a guy that brings black dancing shoes
There's a bugle man who's lips are dry
And a bare foot priest who says a sigh
There's a fat lady sings in a bar I use

Poem 25

.....Twentieth of March..  Derek H.

And so here we are again
Yep it's my birthday today
(Some years it's the last day of winter
Others the first day of spring)
Softening now the grey skies of rain
So close now, so close again
Almost there with each lengthening day
To the green of April, the bright green of May..

..Poem twenty four..

       This Be The Verse...

By Philip Larkin... additional lines by Derek H.

They fuck you up your mom and dad
They may not mean to but they do
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra just for you

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats

Man hands on misery to man
It deepens like a coastal shelf
Get out as early as you can
And don't have any kids yourself.

They fuck you up the kids you had
They may not mean to but they do
Pouring guilt on their mum and dad
Saying you're some-one they never knew

But they'll be fucked up in their turn
By brats who won't wear threadbare coats
Who'll half the time refuse to learn
And half spent filling their throats

Man hands on misery to man
It deepens like a coastal shelf
Get out as early as you can
Return to being a kid yourself.

They fuck you up the dreams you had
They may not seem to but they do
Pouring guilt, good hidden by bad
Drowning in shame as they never flew

But dreams were fucked up long before
By 'Holy' men and men of books
Selling dreams to those unsure
'Cause freedom ain't the prize it looks

Man hands on misery to man
It deepens like a coastal shelf
Get out as early as you can....
But always be a dreamer yourself....

Not sure Philip would approve, but hey, he's dead.
